A digital rim lock is a surface mounted lock, which simply means that the locking mechanism is not embedded in the door. The bolt locks the door by entering into a surface mounted bracket. A main characteristic of a rim lock is that it does not come with a handle. Thus, rim locks are highly popular with clients that want to maintain their current conventional door lock and have rim locks as add-ons. In cases where there is a pull handle on the door and a digital mortise lock is not feasible, the next best digital lock option would be a digital rim lock or deadbolt.
